Salesian Starts Production

Full story follows.

The Club has formed Salesian BGC Productions, with a goal of presenting to the community, donors, government agencies, Salesian Family and public foundations the work that the Club is doing in East Los Angeles.

The first project is a series of three video productions: a 60-second public service announcement (PSA) and two behind-the-scenes featurettes.

The PSA, entited “You are My Sunshine” tells the story of a young girl’s journey to the Club and the ever-present social issues that she faces on the way. Thirty of our Club members star in this landmark production.

The second video is a behind-the-scenes documentary focusing on the 20+ member production team, led by director Joe Kelly, who worked on the PSA.

The third video is an interview with actor Michael Peña, narrator of the PSA and star of Cesar Chavez, Fury and other high profile movies. Michael is an outstanding actor, and a truly caring person who understands the importance of Boys & Girls Clubs in their communities. The support, kindness and respect he gave Salesian added immensely to the positive energy of this production.

This venture, made possible thanks to the financial support of Board Member Frank Venti and the Salesian Old Boys, is only the beginning. Future project include additional PSAs, Club member success stories, and a special art-themed video.

“You are My Sunshine” will air on public TV in June. The interview with Michael Peña will appear on his website, Facebook page and Instagram, as well as the Club’s website and social media pages.

Without the support and dedication of Br. Tom, Jay, Maria, and Joe Kelly and his team, the Club could never have reached this step. Salesian Boys & Girls Club is committed to the true mission of Don Bosco: Kids come first!!!

Be Great. Be Salesian.

You can make a difference in a young person's life
