What am I doing Friday evening at the Youth Center when everyone has gone home? It does not make sense! But it does; the reason why I am here is because I am so excited about sharing all the good news that is happening at our Youth Center. First, please let me clarify our news title: we will be Principals for a day at LAUSD. The LA Chamber of Commerce has created a program where local leaders can spend one morning accompanying the principals of the LAUSD Schools. So we will be joining this program next week, more news to come!
Now, let me share with you some of the amazing projects that have happened here at our Youth Center.

Saving Water - Intergenerational Project

This initiative promoted intergenerational dialogue and raised awareness about the importance of water conservation through engaging activities and creative expression. Participants produced three impactful videos highlighting practical conservation tips and diverse generational perspectives.

Empowering New Arrivals: The Speak and Explore ESL Program
This summer, the Salesian Family Youth Center hosted the Speak and Explore ESL program, providing an immersive experience for high school students from Mexico, Ecuador, and El Salvador. Over five weeks, participants enhanced their English skills through real-world activities that fostered cultural understanding and personal growth. The supportive environment allowed students to practice their language skills and make mistakes, boosting their confidence and motivation.
The program exemplifies our commitment to supporting immigrant youth in our community. By nurturing a culture of understanding and growth, we empower these remarkable young people to thrive in their new environment. We invite you to join us in our mission to create an inclusive community where every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
